Step 3 of 8

Add Tools

Add callable weather operations and inspect how their descriptions and input fields become tool schemas.

Tools are operations a client can ask the server to perform. Their names, descriptions, and schemas should give both people and models enough information to invoke them correctly.

Start with Get current weather. Review its location and unit fields before adding it, then select another tool from the curated catalog to compare its schema.

Weather data by Open-Meteo · CC BY 4.0

  • The tool name describes an action
  • The description states what the caller receives
  • Required and optional inputs are distinguishable
  • The schema rejects unsupported values before execution

Weather operations use live data from Open-Meteo. If the provider is unavailable, the runtime returns an explicit MCP error instead of fabricated data.
