Hosts, Clients, and Servers

Identify the ownership and connection boundaries between the three core participants in an MCP architecture.

The host is the user-facing application, a client manages one server connection, and a server exposes a focused capability surface.

Check your understanding

If one host connects to three independent servers, it normally creates three client instances. This gives each connection its own lifecycle and negotiated capabilities.
